Oxytetracycline falls under the drug category of antibiotics called tetracyclines. This antibiotic inhibits the growth of many bacteria. It obstructs the construction of proteins that the bacteria require to grow. As a result the infection doesn't spread. This drug is mainly bacteriostatic and works by inhibition of protein synthesis. It works against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive organisms.
Indication
Oxytetracycline tablets can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as chronic inflammatory disorder of the facial skin (acne rosacea), acne vulgaris, dental infections, flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, infections like the eye infection trachoma, chest infection psittacosis, and sexually-transmitted chlamydia), Weil's Disease/leptospirosis, pneumonia, Lyme disease and or genital infections).
Contraindication
This medication is contraindicated in patients with children less than 12 years of age, breastfeeding women, pregnant women and kidney diseased patient. Patient having allergic to one or any of its elements also should not take this tablet.
